The factory flex plate on a 7.3L was never meant to live behind a built engine and transmission. Once you add tuning, a bigger converter and some real towing or pulling, the stock plate starts taking heat around the converter mounts, and those hot spots turn into cracks. I've seen plenty of them come apart over the years here at the shop. The XDP Billet Tow & Race Series flex plate is the fix I'd put in any E4OD or 4R100 truck that's making more than stock power.
It's machined from billet steel forgings, precision balanced, SFI 29.3 certified, and rated to handle 1,500 lb-ft of torque. If you're already pulling the transmission for a rebuild or a converter, this is the time to do it.
Pairs well with the XDP XD714 harmonic balancer if you're building up the bottom end.
