General Hydra Setup For Standard Tuning

  1. Locate PCM Box Code: Find the box code on your truck. View PCM location instructions here.
  2. Install Software: Download and install the latest HydraFlash Software.
  3. Calculate Calibration: Using your PCM box code, convert to your preferred calibration using the Box/HEX Converter.
  4. Select Calibrations: Choose your desired calibrations inside HydraFlash.
    Note: All files MUST share the exact same HEX strategy. Mixing HEX codes on a single chip will cause engine stalling.
  5. Prepare & Clean PCM Terminals: Remove the PCM and thoroughly clean all silicone coating off the edge connector contacts (top, bottom, and between grooves).
  6. Install Chip: Insert the chip firmly into the PCM and reinstall in the truck.
    Position #00 is always "Bypass Mode" and the final position #N5 is always "No Start".
Important Installation Note: 99.9% of "Crank / No-Start" issues post-installation are caused by leftover silicone on the PCM connector terminals or contacts that have been worn down to bare copper. Double-check the underside of the connector before reinstalling.

Locating Your Hydra Serial Number

Your 8-digit Hydra Serial Number (containing numbers and/or letters) is required for all custom tuning orders.

Newer Chips (7/1/21 – Present)

Located directly on a white label affixed to the chip itself, as well as on the exterior of the white packaging box.

Older Chips (Pre-7/1/21)

Connect your chip to a PC using a USB cable and launch HydraFlash. The 8-digit serial number will be displayed in the lower right corner of the application screen.

Programming Custom Tunes Using HydraFlash

  1. Download and install HydraFlash onto your PC via hydrahelp.com.
  2. Save your custom tune files from your email into a designated folder on your computer.
  3. Connect the Hydra Chip to your PC using the mini-USB cable and open HydraFlash.
  4. Select Position #1 and click the folder icon to load your custom file. (If existing tunes are present, click the "X" on each position to clear them, then click "Program" to erase).
  5. Repeat the file selection process for remaining position slots.
  6. Click "Program All" on the left control panel to flash the tunes to your chip.
  7. Print or save your calibration list for future reference.
